Blue Jays’ Springer out of lineup vs. Red Sox due to viral illness

Toronto Blue Jays right fielder George Springer was removed from Monday’s starting lineup due to a viral illness, the team announced.

Calgary Flames defenceman Oliver Kylington plans to return to the team next season after missing all of the 2022-23 campaign for personal reasons, president of hockey operations Don Maloney said Monday.

“It certainly seems he’s in a very good place,” Maloney said at a press conference announcing the firing of head coach Darryl Sutter.

“Told me he’s excited about coming back next season, which is very positive for the organization.”

Former Flames GM Brad Treliving said little about Kylington’s status after training camp when he announced the Swedish defenceman was dealing with a family issue, adding it wasn’t substance abuse.

Kylington, 25, had nine goals and 22 assists for 31 points in a career-high 73 games as the Flames captured the Pacific Division crown in 2021-22.

The Flames picked Kylington in the second round (60th overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft.
